SoftNAS: Securing Mission-Critical Data

CIO VendorRick Braddy, CEO, Founder, and CTO
More data has been created in the recent past than has been ever witnessed before. By the year 2020, about 1.7 megabytes of new information will be created every second for every human being on the planet. All of this data will have to pass the cloud one way or another. The prominence of data is rising as technology advances and as competition increases amongst businesses. The importance of data is also growing in decision-making and managing productivity. Driven by these changes, stakeholders of enterprises have come to the consensus that cloud is the way to go. However, most of the available solutions are expensive, complicated, and fail to provide the necessary security to the client’s data. “With so much data to be managed across many industries, the multi-billion dollar cloud storage market is expanding at a rapid pace and SoftNAS is poised to give enterprises the power to safely manage, access and protect precious corporate data and applications as the cloud is adopted by mainstream business,” says Rick Braddy, CEO of SoftNAS.

The firm provides its customers with enterprise-class data security, protection, and performance required to predictably, safely, and reliably operate IT systems and applications. The motto of the company is “powerful, hassle-free data management”. SoftNAS works with any hardware, data type, across any geography, and with any IT environment, including cloud-computing platforms such as Amazon AWS, Microsoft Azure, CenturyLink Cloud, and VMware vSphere.

SoftNAS’ frictionless experience that is easy to try, buy, and use on-demand for any IT administrator of DevOps team is a welcome change. There is also greater agility and flexibility for IT on offer, regardless of the cloud platform selected. Therefore, any business can successfully implement a hybrid cloud strategy. The company addresses data intensive use cases such as primary cloud storage, archiving, backups, snapshots, replication, high availability, disaster recovery and business continuity.

SoftNAS is software-based for immediate deployment, works across cloud platforms and protocols without sacrificing full enterprise NAS functionality

SoftNAS’s flagship product Cloud NAS is an enterprise-class NAS filer delivered as a virtual appliance for cloud that supports multiple protocols including NFS, CIFS/SMB, iSCSI, and AFP. The robust solution comes with Active Directory and Lightweight Directory Access Protocol (LDAP) integration that enables domain users to more securely share files and data in a corporate environment. The real-time backup solution automatically saves a copy of every change made on the data, enabling restoration of data at any point of time.

The robust solution is designed to elastically switch to different storage options such as higher speed SSDs or lower cost hard disk drives, and can be upgraded as per client needs. Very recently, SoftNAS’s solutions put to use by IndonesianCloud to accelerate Video On Demand Performance for its customers. The firm, is an independent cloud service provider, specializing in the delivery of managed IT services based around the principle of on-demand, dynamic, and pay-per-use. “As one of the few cloud providers in the country certified by VMware, we were looking for a solution that could work in our datacenters, scale up and was easy to deploy and use. SoftNAS Cloud NAS has proved to be flexible and incorporates CIFS support along with other features that allow us to focus on our core business,” said Reza Kertadjaja, Chief Operating Officer, IndonesianCloud.

Last year SoftNAS added object storage services and software-based WAN/cloud acceleration and closed a $5 million funding round. SoftNAS’s vision will continue to be to free customers from scale limitations and hardware dependencies while enabling them to expand their storage to the cloud.
